 Green Initiatives

USC Hotel is the first university-owned lodging property to earn a coveted Green Seal Silver Certification. This marks the third consecutive year that the hotel has earned the distinction, making it one of just five hotels nationwide to achieve this level of certification. To qualify for the award, the hotel had to meet strict criteria including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, employee training and education, and environmental stewardship.

The hotel achieved its certification through the Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design program, which provides comprehensive standards for green building design and construction. In addition to earning the designation, the hotel also received a Gold LEED certification for its sustainability efforts.

California cuisine

is a term used to describe American cooking styles originating in California during the late 19th century. Today, it refers to food prepared with ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products, nuts, and herbs grown primarily in California. Ingredients are often cooked simply and served without sauces or condiments.

The term “California Cuisine” originated in San Francisco in the early 20th century. In the 1970s, California chefs began experimenting with fresh local produce and meats, creating dishes based on seasonal ingredients. This style of cooking became known as California Regional Cuisine. In the 1980s, California Cuisine expanded beyond San Francisco into Los Angeles, where it gained popularity among celebrities.

Today, California Cuisine includes many different types of restaurants serving a wide range of cuisines. These include casual eateries, fine dining establishments, ethnic restaurants, fast food chains, bakeries, coffee shops, juice bars, barbecue joints, ice cream parlors, cafés, and even some steakhouses.
