Diving expeditions to the Titanic wreck possible again from summer
Would you like to be closer to the original Titanic and not just watch its Hollywood likeness slide and sink across the television screen? This wish could come true in 2022, because expeditions to the wreck of the world-famous luxury ship are planned again in summer – and you can be part of it! In addition to a training run, the only requirement is a fairly high travel budget.
The company Ocean Gate is planning six manned expeditions to the wreck of the Titanic for the summer of 2022, in which non-researchers can also take part. The so-called ” Titanic Survey Expeditions” should last ten days and start from Newfoundland. However, the offer is not entirely new – already in 2021 dives for tourists to the iconic shipwreck took place.
Requirements for the Titanic mission
To be part of the expedition, interested parties must meet the following requirements:
- be at least 18 years old (at the start of the expedition)
- be able to live on a diver support ship for a week
- have a valid passport
- can board small dinghies in rough seas
- feel comfortable in dynamic environments where (time) plans can change at any time
- Demonstrate balance and flexibility (for example, by climbing a ladder and carrying around 20-pound weights)
If you are interested, you can find out more here and apply directly to become a “mission specialist”. Those interested in diving in 2022 can currently apply. And if you like, you can bring a guest who is not allowed to dive with you.

What are the expeditions to the Titanic wreck like?
The trips last ten days in total. In addition to the dive, necessary training courses are also completed during these days, which prepare the participants for the conditions above and below the water.
The dive itself lasts between six and eight hours. A pilot, three mission specialists (you if you wish) and a Titanic expert dive with mini submarines down to the shipwreck – the Titanic is about 3.8 kilometers deep. Thanks to glass walls and some external cameras, the occupants should be offered a unique view of the sunken ship and the diverse marine world during the dive.
During the dive, the submarine glides over the deck of the iconic shipwreck. The interior is lit so that divers can see the remains of the grand staircase. The remains of the iconic bridge can also be explored, as well as a large field of artifacts.
How much does an expedition to the Titanic cost?
Private Titanic divers have to dig deep into their pockets for tickets. The price per person is a whopping 250,000 US dollars (equivalent to 221,715 euros). The mission specialist’s guest pays half.
Included in the mission specialist price is not only the dive to the RMS Titanic, but also accommodation at the stations on the high seas, meals and training for the mission. You also get the necessary equipment and can take part in events with scientists and experts. The guest is also allowed to participate in everything except the dive.
